Pumpkin Pie Spice Play Dough Recipe

Making homemade play dough is not only inexpensive, but it lasts forever!  This time of year is my absolute favorite for making it, because we can make it smell like pumpkin pie! I've used this same recipe for years, and it stays soft for months.  Super simple to make, this tried and true recipe hasn't failed me yet.  You could add any color food coloring, scent, glitter, etc, but today I'm going to give you our Pumpkin Pie Spice Play Dough Recipe... A FREE recipe printable is available at the bottom of this post, too.

Pumpkin Pie Spice Play Dough Recipe

Ingredients

·         1 cup flour

·  1 Cup Water

·         ¼ cup salt

·         1 tablespoon vegetable oil

·         2 teaspoons cream of tartar

·         1 teaspoon Pumpkin Pie Spice

·        Several drops of Orange Food Coloring

Directions

**Note** this is cooked on the stove.  The dough gets very hot.  Guard children from this process.

Mix all of the ingredients together in a medium sauce pan except your food coloring.  Stir over low to medium heat.  Stir continuously until the dough begins to pull together and eventually forms a ball (about 5-7 minutes, give or take)

promptly (and carefully ~it will be hot)  Remove the ball of dough from the pan by dumping it out on a cookie sheet.

 ***The dough is HOT***

once it is cool, and you are able to touch it, knead it for a few good minutes.  Line your cookie sheet with parchment paper, wax paper or foil if you are worried about getting food coloring on it.  Add your orange food coloring and knead it through.

*Tip* When adding the food coloring, first form a ball with your dough.  Press your thumb down at the top to form a hole.  Put your food coloring drops in the hole, then cover it back up with dough and knead the color through.

Store in an air tight container. (iv’e always used a freezer zip lock bag.)
